Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (1951 to 1957), he was a pitcher with the Cleveland Indians, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago White Sox, Washington Senators and Boston Red Sox. Born Robert Edward Chakales he attended Benedictine High School (Richmond, Virginia), where he was a three-sport athlete achieving All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball. He made his Major League debut on April 21, 1951 with the Indians and appeared in 17 games that season. During his career, he surpassed 40 games twice (1954 and 1956), and finished in the top ten for most appearances in the American League with 43 games (8th place) while with the Senators in 1956. In 171 career games, he compiled a 15 win, 25 loss record with a 4.54 lifetime ERA in 420 innings pitched. Following his baseball career, he designed golf courses.
