Retired Air Force Lt. Col. John C. King, 79, Sarasota, FL, died Feb. 21, 2003. He was born July 17, 1923, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and came to Sarasota in 1986 from Clearwater. He retired in 1986 as procurement manager at the Honeywell Avionics Division in St. Petersburg. He retired from the Air Force in 1965 and served from 1944 as a B-17 and B-19 pilot. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY, in 1944 and Harvard Business School, Cambridge, Mass, in 1954. He was a Presbyterian.

Survivors include sons William H. of Venice, Richard C. of St. Petersburg, Steve of Sarasota and James S. of Clearwater; a brother, former Congressman David S. of Washington, DC; and eight grandchildren. No visitation is scheduled. Services and burial will be in July in Arlington National Cemetery. Forest Lawn Crematory, Port Charlotte, is in charge. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238, in memory of his wife, Marie H., who died in 1998. Published in Herald Tribune on Mar. 18, 2003.
