Philip Donald Hendershot was born on February 9, 1931, in Roseau County, Minnesota. He was the son of Howard Lake and Iris Leone Fauvre Hendershot.

Airman Killed by Hangar Door
DULUTH, Minn. – (UPI) – S-Sgt. Philip D. Hendershot, 33, was crushed to death beneath a heavy hangar door at the Air Force base here Thursday when the locking mechanism on the overhead door broke.
An Air Force spokesman said [S-Sgt.] Hendershot was assigned to the base rescue center.
He said the door of a hangar housing helicopters was operated by a counterweight device. A bolt holding the counterweights apparently snapped and the crashed down on the sergeant, killing him.
[S-Sgt.] Hendershot was a native of Roseau, Minnesota.
