Marine Gunnery Sgt. Joseph B. Russ, 36, of 222 Illinois St., Joliet, died May 6 near Da Nang while in action with a mortar crew. Russ had served at the Marine reserve training center in Joliet for three years before leaving for Viet Nam in January and was assigned to Mortar Battery, 3rd Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division.
Survived by his widow, Norma Russ, a son; Terry and a daughter; Brenda Russ all of PA, his parents, Joseph Russ and Elizabeth Russ of Pittsburg, PA.
