Roger D. Schaffer, 79, formerly of York, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006, at the Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2006, at his church, the 1st Assembly of God Church, 420 Baltimore Road, Shippensburg, with Pastor Dan Cluck officiating. Interment will be private in Arlington National Cemetery.
Born June 2, 1926, in York, he was the son of the late Samuel and Theda (Keener) Schaffer. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a Pharmacist's Mate in the U.S. and Japan. Roger was a past American Legion member of PA Post #223. He was retired from insurance and real estate sales.
He is survived by three daughters, Chrisann Hatfield of Mechanicsville, Va., Bonnie Sweitzer and Susan Landes, both of York; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Joy Sayers of York; and two brothers, Daryl Schaffer of Dover and Dale Schaffer of York. The Workinger-Semmel Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., York is in charge of the arrangements.
