Helen Gailis Tatsch, 82, of Fredericksburg, wife of the late Lt. Col. James H. Tatsch, USMC (Ret.), died at her daughters home in Marble-head, MA, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.

A funeral mass was held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m., in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead, MA.

Interment of her ashes will be with her late husband in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mrs. Tatsch was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Alex Gailis and Antoinette Michunas Gailis.

After receiving her bachelors degree in chemistry from Mount Mercy College, she became employed as an industrial chemist for a munitions company. When the company went on strike during World War II she joined the U.S. Navy to serve in the Hospital Corps. She later completed a librarian certificate program and was employed by Ratheon in Bedford, MA.

Mrs. Tatsch is survived by a daughter, Karyn Brady and her husband, Gary, of Marblehead; a son, James Tatsch of Sacramento, CA, and a grandson.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Tatsch was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Margaret Hurd and Valerie Gorbel.
