Charles was serving in the Army Reserves, when he went into active duty and was sent to Vietnam.
When Charles arrived in Vietnam 4 April 1969, he was assigned to H & H Company, 2nd Brigade, 1st Calvary Division, USARV. Charles was the pilot of UH-1H #67-1809 that was shot down by hostile forces 4 kilometers west northwest of Camp Gorrad. The helicopter crashed and burned with six crew members on board. There were no survivors and all of the bodies were recovered.
Lt Vale served his country for 2 years.
Survived by his parents, Charles F and Mary D Vale of Chickensaw Trail, Orlando, Florida.
