SHELBYVILLE - Herman F. Bennett, 85, of Cameron, Mo., formerly of Shelbina, Mo., passed away 7:30 p.m. Saturday (March 6, 2010) in Missouri Veterans Home, Cameron. Masonic services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday in Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home, Shelbina. Visitation will be two hours before services. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Pleasant View Cemetery, Assumption, with military rites. Send condolences: greeningeaganhayes.com. Herman was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Shelbyville, the son of Jacob Lester and Hulda Alice Lantz Bennett. He was a graduate of Moweaqua High School and attended Sparks Business College, Shelbyville. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Shelbina, and served his country in the Navy during World War II. He was a grain and livestock farmer and mail carrier. He was employed in the tool and dye industry and worked for Rubins Dairy, Shelbyville. He was a member of the Northeast Missouri Old Threshers, Shelbina American Legion and Shelbina Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and woodworking. His greatest joy was visiting with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He married Helen Marie Hanley on July 7, 1945. She preceded him in death Dec. 4, 2005. Surviving are his children, Cheryl Drew and husband Dale of Quincy; Jimmy Bennett and wife Deborah of Meadville, Mo.; grandchildren, Jeff Drew, Brent Drew, Brian Drew, Abigail McCracken and Jacob Bennett; nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; grandson, James Brandon Bennett; great-granddaughter, Alana Maria Drew; and brother, Harry Bennett.
