Elisha Pellars Matthews Jr was the son Elisha Pellars Matthews Sr and Nancy Reeves. He was born in 1828 shortly after the family moved to Bond County Illinois from Tennessee. He married Mary Jane Scott 21 Dec 1848 and they were parents of seven children: John Jefferson, Charles Elisha, Mary Elizabeth, Eliza Evalyn, Baby boy Matthews, J. Frank, and Lela Jane. His second marriage was to Lucinda Tedrick Moore Sharp 18 Sep 1871 in Fayette County Illinois and they had a son, Ira Goodson Matthews. His third marriage was to Mary J Myers 2 Feb 1879. Elisha Matthews was very active in establishing the community of Fairview, now known as Pleasant Mound Illinois.
