Times Veteran Taken by Death
Ernest Whitehead, 61, a Times composing room worker for 45 years, died yesterday at his home, 223 N Moore Ave., Monterey Park, after a long-standing heart ailment.
Mr. Whitehead was born in Bradford, Eng., but came to the United States as a child. He was educated in Nebraska and started on The Times as an apprentice in 1903. He became an all-around printer.
In 1916 he started in business for himself but continued as a part-time employee of The Times, returning full-time in 1918. He also served in the armed forces in World War I.

Blast Survivor
At the time of his death Mr. Whitehead was one of the last four Times workers still on active duty who were in the Times Building when it was dynamited Oct. 1, 1910.
He leaves his widow, Mrs. Jane Adeline Whitehead, three brothers, Richard D., Hiram P. and Stanley K. Whitehead, and a sister Mrs. Mable Davis.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a. m. tomorrow at Pierce Bros. Mortuary, 720 W Washington Blvd., with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
