Old and Respected Citizen of Genesee Passes Away

Thomas Linehan, one of the pioneers of this section, settling in this vicinity about 30 years ago, died at his home in Genesee Tuesday, March 4, 1913, of cancer, at the age of 67 years.

He was born at Watergrass Hill, County Cork, Ireland, in March 1846, and came to America with his parents, Corneal and Margaret Linehan, when he was four years of age. They settled in New York, where he resided until eighteen years of age when he went south and enlisted in the Army at Huntsville, Ala. in 1864.

He served his country as a soldier and Indian fighter until peace was restored, he has taken part in many Indian troubles in the west.

He was married to Miss Elizabeth Taylor, near Juliaetta, Ida., on March 18, 1881. They later came to Genesee to reside.

Mr. Linehan was a man who was well known and universally liked by all, for his noble character as a man, which is more than half the battle in his life.

He was a member of the Catholic church, from which the funeral was held yesterday morning at 9 o'clock. Rev Fr. Heagy officiating, with interment in the Catholic cemetery.

He leaves, besides his widow, Elizabeth Linehan, three daughters, and four sons: Mrs. Margaret Murphy of Genesee, Arthur Linehan of Genesee, Mrs. Nancy Mourning of Oregon City, Ore., John Linehan of Tekoa, Wash., Helen Linehan of Genesee, Thos. Linehan, of Tekoa, Wash., Corneal Linehan of Tekoa, Wash., and a sister Mrs. J. C. McKiernan of Pomeroy, Wash, all of whom were present at the funeral.
