John R. Chancellor, 73, a retired farmer of Derrahs community, died at 11:30 a. m. Monday, June 7, at K. O. hospital in Kirksville. Born in Scotland county on Aug. 24, 1891, he was the son of Frank and Mary Whaylan Chancellor. He was a member of the Baptist church in Rutledge and also the Masonic lodge in Rutledge. He married Grace Billups and she preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 1955. On July 11, 1959, he married Bea McDaniel at St. Patrick and she survives. Also surviving are six sons, Lyle at home, Max of California, Miles of Memphis, Paul and Lee of Rutledge, and Joe of Vermillion, S. D.; three daughters, Mrs. Merle (Mary) Norton, Olathe, Kansas, Mrs. Denver (Garnet) Tripp, Luray, and Mrs. Dennis (Kathleen) Tripp, Vermillion, S. D.; one sister, Mrs. Glen (Verna) Woods, Memphis; and two step daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Thompkins, Kansas City and Mrs. Leta Gibbons R 1, Canton. He was preceded in death in addition to his first wife by brothers and sisters. Funeral service was Thursday at 2:00 p. m. in the Baptist church at Rutledge with the Rev. Ivan Cull officiating and the Rev. Adams assisting. Burial was in the Pauline Masonic cemetery at Rutledge.
