Ernest was the son of Jacob and Margaretta (Koerber) Aust (Formerly known as Ast). He had 7 brothers and sisters: Rosa, William John, Margaret Elizabeth, Ida L., Henrietta, and twins Jakob Ludwig & Minna Louisa. He also had a half brother Frank Aust, and 3 half sisters: Emma, Ella, and Minnie Aust. Ernest died of Diphtheria, according to his death certificate. His obituary said pneumonia. He is buried in Fern Hill Cemetery in Chehalis - which was originally known as Urquhart Cemetery.
