Miss Rachel Rogers married Oliver Syfert on November 29, 1899 in Herrick. Together they raised five children: Elmer Lee, Homer Harold, Jessie Mae, Eva Lunette, and Noble Keith. Although times were tough Mr. & Mrs. Syfert made sure all five of their children not only attended school through a specific grade but they made sure they graduated from high school and encouraged them to further their education. They were never made to feel they would have to drop out of school to help on the farm. Mr. & Mrs. Syfert were going to work several jobs if they had to in order to give their children the best education they could. Mr. and Mrs. Syfert spent their entire lives in Shelby County, Illinois.
