George Herbert Taggart was born at Chicago, Ill, March 3, 1893, the son of David Getty Taggart, a native or Ireland, deceased, and Mrs. Abigail Graham Taggart, a native of Scotland, deceased. He had resided in Texas for 33 years, all of which time he made Victoria his home.
Mr. Taggart was one of the community's leading citizens, taking part in every civic enterprise. He unselfishly gave both time and effort to any undertaking toward improvement of the community as a whole and never failed to answer the call for public service. A past president of the Rotary Club, he was also chairman of the Victoria Athletic Council and for many years chairman of the President's Birthday Ball campaign.
The deceased was associated with a wholesale grocery firm for many years and for the past five years was office manager for McCan-Welder and for the Welder Heirs. His passing has caused widespread grief, not only throughout this county, but throughout this section of the state.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cecile Taggart, one daughter, one grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Harry B. Daniels of Chicago, Ill.
