Elsie E. (Carlson) Reed was born on Thursday; June 3, 1921 in Buxton; Monroe County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Warner M. and Anna M. Carlson. Elsie attended County Line School. She was a homemaker, cooked at the Monroe County Hospital, and for twenty-two years cooked at Lincoln Middle School. She married Robert B. (Tobe) Reed in Ottumwa; Wapello on December 25, 1940. Robert B. (Tobe) passed away on March 27, 1991. She helped raise four children, Robert D. Reed, Raymond E. Reed, David L. Reed, and Nellie M. Osborn; from Tobe's previous marriage to Signe M. Carlson who is deceased. From her union with Tobe three children were born Ronald J. Reed, Terry A. Reed, and Randy J. Reed. Elsie enjoyed flowers, gardening, and family. She was christened in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Buxton and attended the First Christian church in Albia for the past several years. Elsie E. (Carlson) Reed, age 88, passed away on Friday evening; February 26, 2010, at Monroe Care Center in Albia, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her six of the children, Raymond E, (Pat) Reed, and David L. Reed both of Albia, Nellie (Ramon) Osborn of Newton, Ronald J. (Sharon) Reed, Terry (Carol) Reed both of Albia, and Randy J. (Penny) Reed of Ottumwa; daughter-in-law, Jo'an Reed of Albia. Elsie is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; eleven great- great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Keegel; one brother, Art Carlson both of rural Albia; and several nieces and nephews.
Elsie is preceded in death by her husband Tobe Reed; her parents, Warner and Anna Carlson; one son, Robert D. (Bob) Reed; four sisters, Signe Reed, Violet Hagedorn, Margaret Carlson, and Agnes Stewart; and two brothers, Carl Carlson and Harold Carlson. Elsie is also preceded by one son in infancy; and one great grandson, Jay Reed. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday; March 1, 2010 at the Winfield Funeral Home in Albia with the family present. Funeral services will will begin at: 10:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Albia, Iowa. Interment will be at the Highland Cemetery in Eddyville; Mahaska County, Iowa. The Winfield Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
