John Berger was born at his father's plantation 'Clifton" in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. On December 23, 1799 he married Margaret "Peggy" Hedrick, a daughter of Capt. Phillip Hedrick, a Revolutionary War Captain. He and his wife plus their married daughters moved to Henry county, Indiana in 1827. They built their home "The Stagecoach Inn" on what is now US 40 3 miles west of Lewisville, Henry, Indiana. They operated the Inn and farmed. He and "Peggy" plus 4 children are buried on the farm. The 4 children buried there all died in 1835. Kay Anderson.
The house, in Lewisville, that the Berger's built, now sits at Conner Prairie, near Noblesville, IN. It was disassembled, each piece numbered, rebuilt at Conner Prairie, and is now called the Blacksmith's Home, and is part of the tour.
