Memorial services will be held at 8:30 Thursday morning, June28, 1945, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, for Yeoman Second Class Buford Joseph LeJeune who was killed April 16, 1945, while fighting in Okinawa. All relatives , friends and members of the American Legion are invited to attend. Born August 5, 1924, Yeoman LeJeune graduated from Basile High School in 1941 and was awarded the American Legion medal for outstanding scholarship. He attended a business college in Lake Charles and was employed at a defense plant until he joined the Navy in June, 1943. He received his boot training in San Diego, California and attended Yeoman school in Rhode Island for six months after which he went overseas in January, 1944, on a destroyer escort. He had participated in many battles before he lost his life in Okinawa. Burial was made with full military honors in a cemetery on Okinawa
BASILE,LOUISIANA
The body of Yeoman Second Class Buford Joseph LeJeune, who lost his life on Okinawa, April 16, 1945, will arrive from Okinawa at 1:57 p.m. Friday at the Missouri-Pacific Station. Yeoman LeJeune is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas LeJeune of the Tepetate Community.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iota with burial following in the Iota cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Thomas and Victorine Bertrand LeJeune; three brothers, Kermit and Bryan Dale both of Tepetate, and Caffery LeJeune of Eunice, four sisters, Mrs. Roman Klumpp and Mrs. Ivan LeJeune of Iota and Mrs.R.A. Bergeron and Ivy LeJeune of Tepetate.
He was preceded in death by one sister Blanche LeJeune.
