Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. His true name was Edward Madden. He entered the US Navy at Massachusetts and served as a Ordinary Seaman. His citation reads "Served on board the USS Franklin at Lisbon, Portugal, 9 January 1876. Displaying gallant conduct, Maddin jumped overboard and rescued one of the crew of that vessel from drowning".
