* L.J. "Jim" Bailey, 69, of Route 4, died early Thursday morning April 11, 1991 in the Jane Phillips Nowata Health Center.

He was born May 23, 1921 in Hartshorne, Missouri to Elmer and Marie Mayfield Bailey. He grew up in Coffeyville and attended local schools.

In December 1941 he entered the US Army serving in World War II. He was in the 45th Division 2nd Chemical Batalion, serving in Africa, Salerno, Sicily, Italy, Australia, and southern France. Mr. Bailey received the Soldiers Medal.

In 1972 he married Loretta McAfee.

Mr. Bailey was a pipefitter on construction. The past ten years he had owned and operated Baileys Restuarant.

He was a member of the Local Number 399 Union, American Legion Post Number 20, VFW Post Number 1022, the Dewey Masonic Blue Lodge Number 446, and the Tulsa Scottish Rite Consistory.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter - Marie Werner of Independence, Kansas; a stepson - Duane Nunnallee of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter - Karyn Hays of Nowata, Oklahoma; a brother - Elvin of Wann, Oklahoma; stepbrothers - Orlo Cessna of Coffeyville and Clarence Cessna of Washington; a sister - Mildred Forgey of Wichita; and a stepsister Margaret Ann Smith of Coffeyville.

Graveside services will be at 2 pm Saturday in Fairview Cemetery.
