Rubie Mae Gifford was born December 30, 1908 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia to Clarence Elmer Gifford and Jennie Lynn Carroll Gifford. She was the middle of three children born to Clarence and Jennie. She had an older sister, Wandergold Amanda and a younger brother, Clarence Elmer. Rubie grew up in Huntington and married her true love, Kenneth Cole Bland, on May 16, 1928 in Davis Creek, Cabell County, West Virginia. They were blessed with three children: Mary Lynn,Kenneth Cole Jr., and Elizabeth Ann (Petie). The Bland family moved from Simms Street to Overlook Drive and then finally settled at 256 Rotary Road in Huntington. Rubie's greatest joy was taking care of her family. She died on March 09, 1998 in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.
