Lester R. Pierce, 82, of Ramsey, died at 2:12 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at his home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey, with Pastor Jay Huddleston officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Ramsey. Memorials: Fayette County Health Department Hospice.

Mr. Pierce was born on Oct. 20, 1927, in Ramsey, the son of Samuel Brody and Jessie Mae Nave Pierce. He married Virginia Faye Morell on April 21, 1951, in Decatur; she died on May 16, 2006.

He was a heavy equipment operator at BCS in Mesa, Ariz., and Caterpillar, and was affiliated with Herrick Baptist Church in Herrick. He served in the Army Air Corps, 1946-47.

He is survived by sons, Paul Pierce and his wife Karen of Ramsey, and Mark Pierce and his wife Pam of Westland, Mich.; daughters, Doris and her husband Richard McGinniss of Ramsey, and Shirley and her husband Ronnie Benham of Ft. Worth, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a niece, Linda Anderson of Ramsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a sister.
