At the 1956 Summer Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia, he won a bronze Medal for springboard diving, and the Gold Medal for the men's 10-Metre Platform diving, beating out American Gary Tobian for the top score. He also won four gold medals in the springboard and platform at the Pan American Games, in Buenos Aires, Argentina 1951 and Mexico City, Mexico in 1956. He later coached and taught his diving techniques in Mexico City, inspiring a new generation of competitors.
