He was the son of Ralph Glosser Piper and Mary Jane Wills Piper. He married Emily (Emma) Jane Blair, on February 14, 1883, in the home of her parents, William and Margaret Blair. They farmed the same land that his father had owned south of Gainesville, known as the Downard-Fairplains community.


He died of an accidental gunshot wound.

They had 7 children, with Mary Jane dying in infancy.

James Everett,
Ralph Lee,
John Wills,
Phoebe Piper Harmon 1895-1913
and Margaret Effie Thompson 1900-1978.
