In Memory of Rev‘d. Paine Wingate,
First Pastor of the Church of Amesbury west parish,
In him meekness and moderation unaffected Piety and
Benevolence were Eminently conspicuous.
The People of his Charge were for a long series
Of years edified by his Preaching and animated to the
Practice of pure Religion by his example.
Having faithfully discharges the duties of his ministerial
Office near sixty years beloved and honored by those
Who best knew him he departed this life in cheerful
Expectation of a better on 19th of Feb. 1786. Aged 83.
Also in Memory of Madam Mary Wingate,
Relict of Rev'd. Paine Wingate, in whom where exhibited
The virtues and piety of an exemplary Christian
she departed this life on the 9th of Oct. 1787. Aged 81.
To record the virtues of the dead and the gratitude of the living
Was this monument created.
The memory of the just shall be blessed.
