Eli Meek was a native of South Carolina (York County) and many years after his marriage to Miss Martha Louisa Starr, a native also of South Carolina, he moved to Arkansas, and settled twenty-five miles south of Warren on a farm. There his death occurred in 1866. They were the parents of five sons and two daughters: John Rufus Starr Meek (b.9.13.1827 - d. 2.19.1900, James Marion (killed at the battle of Chickamauga), Edward Stewart (killed at the Battle of Atlanta) and Major Amzi Theophiliss (killed at the battle of Franklin, Tenn., in November, 1864), Margaret Jane (b.8.23.1829-d.2.5.1849), Martha Ann (b.6.28.1839-d.9.23.1885), William Chambers (b.8.24.1833 - d.10.10.1841).
