Television Newscaster. He is most remembered for being paired with newsman David Brinkley on NBC television's nightly news. Born Chester Robert Huntley in Cardwell, Montana, he first worked for Movietone News and then moved to CBS Radio in Los Angeles, California. He then moved to NBC Television in Los Angeles, and he became noticed during the 1956 political conventions when he was teamed up with former UPI reporter David Brinkley. Their chemistry led to the two men being paired for the “Huntley-Brinkley Report”, which ran from October 1956 through July 1970. Their signature sign-off was "Good Night, Chet" from Brinkley, followed by a "Good Night, David" from Huntley, and their dual coverage lasted until Chet Huntley retired in 1970. After the “Huntley-Brinkley Report” went off the air, he became a spokesman for American Airlines, then he started his own Montana Vacation Resort in Bozeman, Montana, where he died of lung cancer in 1974. He is buried at Sunset Hills Cemetery but has a cenotaph at Soldiers Chapel Cemetery.
