MONTROSE –– Ila Mae Vermazen, 85, of Montrose died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in the Montrose Health Center.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1924, in New Boston, the daughter of Earl and Greta Harrison Kite.

She was united in marriage to Robert Louis Vermazen on April 2, 1941, in Keokuk. He survives.

Additional survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Eigenfeld and her husband, Roger, of Madison, Wis., and Becky McCorkle and her husband, Corky, of Knoxville; two sons, Dan Vermazen and his wife, Shelly, of Cedar Rapids and Jim Vermazen and his wife, Vicki, of Montrose; 16 grandchildren, Peter Eigenfeld, Whitney Eigenfeld, Kirsten Eigenfeld, Jacqui Cavagnetto, Lauren Wrightsman, Nathan Eigenfeld, Kurt Vermazen, Kory Vermazen, Klay Vermazen, Kacey Vermazen, Tobi Hoyer, Heidi Braksick, Bob McCorkle, Andy McCorkle, Laura Belville and Leann Svejda; 27 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Francine Kite of West Point, Bessie Kite of Mount Sterling and Mary Kite of Argyle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Julian, John, Bill, Otis, Charlie and Lloyd Kite; three sisters, Esther Honeycutt, Nettie Alberts and Rita St. Clair; and a granddaughter, Kristine Vermazen.

Ila had been a partner with her husband, Robert, in running their family farm.

She also had been employed at Sheaffer Pen Corporation in Fort Madison for more than 10 years.

She was a member of the Four Square Church in Keokuk.

Ila was a great cook and loved to make favorite dishes and treats for her family. She loved her children and grandchildren very much and always enjoyed spending time with them and playing a good card game of Canasta.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vigen Memorial Home, Keokuk, with Pastors Dan Davis and Roger Eigenfeld officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Keokuk.

Visitation is after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with family meeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Montrose Public Library.
