Joseph Neil Fidler was born on Christmas Day 1935 in Fairmont, West Virginia. He was the youngest of three children born to Millard G. and Madge H. Woofter Fidler. He attended Fifth Ward School and graduated Fairmont High School, Class of 1953.

Joe joined the US Navy in July 1953 and went to boot camp at the Navy Recruit Training Center at Bainbridge, Maryland. Upon graduation as a Seaman, he was assigned to the staff of COMDESLANT aboard the USS Cascade (AD-16). He was then transferred to the USS Yosemite (AD-19). While stationed in Newport, he met his future wife, Florence M. George, at the Enlisted Men's Club during a dance. Teleman Second Class (TE2) Joseph N. Fidler was honorably discharged in December 1956.

On January 12, 1957, Joe married Florence at Saint Joseph's Church in Pascoag, Rhode Island. The reception was held at Gus' Red Tavern in Nasonville, Rhode Island. They honeymooned in New York City.

Joe held a variety of jobs after discharge from the Navy. He was a machinist at Taft-Peirce in Woonsocket, RI, a milkman for Monroe Dairy in East Providence, RI and a bank clerk at Industrial National Bank in Pascoag, RI. In 1962, Joe and Florence celebrated the birth of their first son, Neil. Their second son, William, was born in 1964 and daughter Kimberly in 1965.

In December 1965, the family moved to Fairmont, West Virginia, and Joe worked for the Community Bank and Trust there. Joe was offered another job at Tygart Valley Bank in Elkins, WV, in 1966, and the family moved again. Joe also worked for Elkins Tire.

Joe and Florence took courses in hotel/restaurant management and hospitality, and shortly thereafter, Joe was offered a job and Maitre D for Ballard's Inn on Block Island, Rhode Island. Joe accepted and the family moved back to Rhode Island.

Joe left Ballard's Inn after the summer of 1972 and accepted a job with National Welders Supply in East Providence as an Office Manager. During that time, he earned his bachelor's degree in finance at Johnson and Wales University in Providence graduating in 1977.

Joe retired from Air Liquide (formerly National Welders) in 1996. Joe was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of St. Theresa's Church in Nasonville, RI. He was also a Third Degree Knight of Columbus with the Pascoag Council #383. He loved the company of his family. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Celtics and West Virginia Mountaineers.

Joe passed away on January 23, 1998, after a battle with cancer. He is survived by his children Neil, William and Kimberly and his three grandchildren, Leah, Josh and Katie.
