The son of Richard Walke and Mary D. Talbot Walke. He graduated from William and Mary in 1856. He married Sarah R. Gary in Winton, North Carolina in 1858. In 1861 he joined the Sixth Virginia Infantry. In 1862 he went with Burruss' battalion of cavalry. In 1863 he was promoted to First Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 39th Battalion of Virginia Cavalry.

Norfolk, Va., March 14.- William Talbott Walke, 68 years of age, died here at noon today. He was an insurance agent and prominent in the business of the city, and a native of Norfolk. He leaves a widow and five children. Mrs. Higginson, of New York; Mrs. Chipley, of Atlanta, and Richard, Isaac and Herbert Walke, of Norfolk, also four sisters and a brother, Mrs. Mary Truxton and Mrs. L. W.
Tazewell, of Norfolk; Mrs. Walton Goodwin, of Washington; Mrs. Morris Pinckney, of Morristown, N.J., and Major Willoughby Walke, U.S.A. Mr. Walke served in the Confederate army during the war.
