"Mrs. Charlotte Arabella Long Davis, 84, one of this area's most prminent citizens, died at her home of 609 N. Vienna early Mon. morning after a brief illness. Mrs. Davis was the widow of Robert Wesley Davis, well-known lumberman, whom she married in 1908. Mr. Davis succumbed in July of 1934. Funeral services under the direction of Spears Funeral Home, were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the the First Baptist Church, with Dr. G. Avery Lee, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery, Ruston. Mrs. Davis was born in Winn Parish. Her parents were Huey Pierce Long and Caledonia Tison Long. She was the sister of the late Governoe and U. S. Senator Huey P. Long, the late Governor and Congressman-elect Earl K. Long, and the late Congressman George Long. Her nephew, Russell Long, is presently U. S. Senator from Louisiana. Mrs. Davis was a life-long member of the Baptist Church, and at the time of her death a member of the First Baptist Church of Ruston, where for many years she was an active choir member. She was a member of The Colonial Dames, D.A.R., Cosmos Club, Eastern Star, B & PW, the Godehaux Music Club, and of the National Society of the Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims. She was very active in the State Federated Clubs of Louisiana. In the latter organization she originated the committee for Beautification and Roadside Parks, and served the committee as Chairman for many years. At the time of her death, Mrs. Davis was President of Davis Bros. Lumber Company, of Ansley, La. Mrs. Davis attended private schools in Winn Parish, M. Zion Seminary at Montgomery, La., and graduated from Northwestern State College, Natchitoches. For many years, she taught in Winn Parish schools, and served as a tutor as well. According to the late Superintendent of Schools, T. H. Harris, she was one of the finest teachers in the state at that time. Additionally, she was often given credit as the driving force behind many of the activities famous brothers. After her marriage she lived in Ansley, where her husband was part-owner of the Davis Bros. Lumber Company until she moved to Ruston in 1921. Mrs. Davis was very active in Ruston's civic affairs. Her charitable work and assistance to those in need was well-known. Survivors include her brother, Julius Tison Long, attorney, of Shreveport, three sisters, Mrs. Olive Long Cooper, Natchitoches, Mrs. Clara Long Knott, Many, and Mrs. Lucille Long Hunt, of Ruston; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Olive Davis Green, Ruston, and Mrs. CHarlotte Davis Parrott; six granschildren, Mrs. Martha Charlotte Green Talley, Miss Roberts Green and Billy Green, of Ruston, Robert Davis Parrott, Miss Nary Charlotte Parrott and John K. Long Parrott, of Alexandria; and one great-grandson, Robert Gregory Talley. Pallbearers are: Messrs. John Hunt, Palmer Long, and James Long, of Shreveport, Russell Long, Baton Rouge, John Ducournau, Natchitoches; Laurin Davis, Jr., Magnolia, Ark.; James Miller McClure, Tulsa, Okla; Thomas McClure and Dr. Paul McMilan Davis, Jr., of Alexandria; and James Davis, Huey Williamson, Virgil Davis Hunt, Alexander Hunt, Jr., and Thomas Hunt of Ruston.
