Businessman. Born to Sereno and Elizabeth Carrothers Fenn in Tallmadge, Ohio, he traveled to Cleveland in 1862 to attend the Cleveland Institute, a college preparatory school. In 1864, he served very briefly in the Ohio 164th Infantry before returning to Cleavland where he was employed as a clerk for the Cleveland, Columbus & Indianapolis Railroad freight office. In 1869, he became acquainted with Henry Sherwin through their work with the Young Mens Christian Association, and was offered a job as cashier and bookkeeper in his new company, Sherwin-Williams. Within ten years, Fenn was made a partner, filling the role of treasurer. He then served as vice president from 1921. In 1929, the Cleavland YMCA School of Technology was renamed Fenn College in his honor. The college later became Cleveland State University, and Fenn Tower is still located on CSU campus.
