Information taken from 11th Texas Calvary website has the following information:

"John H.D. Brown Was originally with Company "C", 1st Regiment Texas Partisan Rangers. Special Order #114 detailed him on extra duty with the Ordinance Department at Little Rock, Arkansas under the command of Major Rhett. The Special Order was from Major General T. H. Holmes, for General T. C. Hindman.

Private Brown enlisted with Company "I" in the 11th Texas Cavalry on January 1, 1863 at Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas by Lieutenant Gibson. Listed as sick in hospital on April 30, 1863 Muster Roll. Listed as private in service as Nurse at Bragg Hospital at Ringgold, Georgia in August of 1863. No further records."

John Haney Davis Brown was born in Missouri to Dr. Alexander and Sarah (Marshall) Brown. Dr. Brown moved his family to Titus County sometime between 1845 and 1850. John married Mary Matilda Hughes on Oct 9, 1855 in Titus Co. They had five children, three daughters and two sons, Harmon & Orphila.
