Mrs. Iona Simmons of RR 1, Marshall, age 90, died Thursday night, March 1, in Vermillion County Hospital at Clinton. She was born in Parke County, March 14, 1888, the daughter of James C. and Mary Frances Delp Robbins. She was married in 1904 to Eston J. Alward, who died July 24, 1960. In 1967, she married Claude E. Simmons, who survivies. A member of Wolf Creek Community Church, she attended Parke County elementary schools and had owned and operated a grocery at Grange Corner since the early 1900's.
Also surviving are four sons, Cliston Alward of Crawfordsville, Stanton Alward of RR 1. Kingman, Leston "Bus" Alward of Attica and John Q. Alward of Hurst, Texas; three step-daughters,Mrs. Lois Isaacs and Mrs. Virginia Taylor, both of Crawfordsville and Joyce Simmons of RR 1, Kingman; two step-sons, Carl Simmons of Muncie and Oral Simmons of RR 1, Marshall; a sister, Mrs. Sylvia Norman of Rockville; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Lester Niles officiating. Burial was in Wolf Creek Cemetery south of Wallace.
