She graduated from Smith College in 1903. In 1909 she married Alvah Kittredge Todd (1880-1916), with whom she had a son, John (born 1917). In 1919 she married Franklin Swift Billings, who served as Governor of Vermont from 1925 to 1927. With her second husband she had a son, Franklin, Jr. (born 1922), who served as Speaker of the Vermont House of Representatives and a federal judge.
