THE PARIS NEWS, SUNDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2013, PAGE A5 - Sgt. Joe David Julian, Ret., 85 of Paris, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Cannon officiating. Burial, with rites rendered by the Paris Police Department, will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Joe, the son of Milton Hooper and Minnie Zona Fry Julian, was born March 23, 1928, in Maxey. He served in the U. S. Navy from April 2, 1946 until Jan. 19, 1948. Before returning to Paris, he worked for Dow Chemical in Freeport, TX. His career with the Paris Police Department spanned twenty-nine years from Jan. of 1960 until March of 1989, when he retired with the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had been active in various senior activities. He was a member of the Paris Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. Joe enjoyed playing music, and especially following his retirement he had played at many venues in Paris and Lamar County.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, in 2000; a grandson, Christopher Julian and his siblings, Charles Julian, Segle Julian, Alice Julian, Clara Nell Stockton, Harold Julian and Joe's twin sister, Jolene Sandlin.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hollingsworth Rumbo Julian, whom he married in July 2, 2007; a son, Chris Julian; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; step-children, Cecil Rumbo, Donna Rubin, Jim Rumbo and Mary Henry, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mildred Julian; two nephews, Jerry Lloyd Julian and Michael Julian; five nieces, Jacque Simmons, Robbie Thomas, Cathy Graves, Patti Crain and Julie Fisher; several great-nieces & great-nephews; and a plethora of friends.
