John Rieber married Elizabeth Freyling in 1880. Like several of his brothers, he worked as a varnisher, according to the 1922 Evansville City Directory. They had seven children. It's unclear when Elizabeth died, but John died Oct. 9, 1930 when he was hit by a car as he stepped from a curb at Edgar and Virginia streets, according to information in the Browning Genealogy Obituary Index. He is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in Evansville.
