After working several years as a messenger boy, he learned the Morse code and became a telegraph operator in 1912, a job which he held for 20 years. From 1932 until his retirement in 1956, he was employed with ADT Division, thus spending a total of 45 years with Western Union.
Surviving besides his wife, Ida, are several cousins.
Services will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:00 a.m. Thursday with Msgr. E.A. Scheir officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary after 2 p.m. Wednesday.
