Wife of Sen. James Piper Taliaferro, who at the age of seventeen, in 1863, volunteered his services to the CSA and was assigned to Brethaud's Battery and 5th regiment of the Virginia Calvary and served until the end of the war in 1865. She had two brothers, Thomas & William Hardy, who were gallant Virginia soldiers in the Confederate Army.

The beautiful Taliaferro Memorial Building was erected in 1923 on Cathedral Square, Jacksonville, in memory of Mrs. Millicent Jessie Taliaferro by her daughter, Mrs. Edward W. Lane and her grandsons, Edward W. Lane, Jr. and J. Taliaferro Lane and donated to St. Johns Cathedral (Episcopal Church).
