On August 6th, 2016, Clair and Ione's family, Children, Grand Children and Great-Grand Children, gathered at the Adkin's Farm for a picnic, celebration and memorial for Clair and Ione. Clair and Iones ashes where enclosed in a special water proof box and buried at their Farm. Some ashes of each where first removed to be scattered on Steen's Mountain at a later date, according to Clair and Ione's wishes

In 1934, as a 19 year old, my adventurous Father-In Law while out west, sent this post card to his Mother back in Minnesota. Little did he know that the scene in the picture on that post card would vanish on May 18, 1980 with the eruption of Mt St Helens and the following devastation of Spirit Lake and the surrounding area.

Clair Adkins eventually moved West leaving Minnesota. First settling in Eugene, moved to Haines Oregon along with his wife Ione, oldest son Jack and daughter Jane. They cattle ranched along with Iones, Father and Mother, Trammer "Shel" Lewis and Maude Baker Lewis. and Ione's brother Jack Harold Lewis. Eventually moving back to Eugene after the cattle herd became sick.

Story has it, the cattle on the Haines ranch became infected with hoof and mouth disease. The government got involved and everything was lost. They loaded their belongings on to the old farm Flat bed truck and headed back to Eugene. The truck was later exchanged for the land/lot and house located on the NW corner of Hwy 126 (W11th) and Fisher Rd.

Clair was a builder and contractor, building Forest Ranger stations (the one that later burnt on Hwy 58 near West Fir exit and one on the coast), and former Arby's building on Franklin Blvd, his first house 315 Irving Rd, Eugene, OR.

The Clairmont Apartment complex sits on farmland of early pioneer Garret Bogart. The homesite and barn were located on ground now occupied by the nearby Garrett Estates. John Bogart, grandson of Garret, was the last Bogart to farm the old homestead. John sold much of the original property to a young, up-and-coming developer named Clair Adkins. Clair along with his wife Ione developed much of the surrounding land, the Bar-M subdivision, Adkins Street, Ione Street as well as the Garrett Estates and Clairmont Apartments.
