Killed in the line of duty
Trooper Jacqueline Vernon had a vehicle stopped on I-395 in Arlington, Virginia 1/10 of a mile south of Glebe Road. While standing by the drivers door of the stopped vehicle and speaking to the driver a Metro bus swerved into her lane and struck her. Trooper Vernon died on arrival at the hospital. She was the first female law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in the history of the state of Virginia.
