MARVIN PAYNE
Marvin L. Payne, 57, of Monroe, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 4, 2005. He passed away at the Monroe Clinic Hospital in Monroe from complications of muscular dystrophy and diabetes. Marvin was born Jan 8, 1948 in Boscobel, son of Donald and Iva (Knaus) Payne. He graduated from Hazel Green High School in 1966. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Platteville and Southwest Tech in Fennimore graduating in 1969 with a degree in accounting. He lived in Prairie du Chien where he worked as a counselor at Crawford County Association of Retarded Citizens for many years. In 1984 he moved to Wiota and in 1995 moved to Monroe where he has resided since. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Monroe where he served as financial secretary. Over the years he served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent. He had a beautiful baritone singing voice which he shared by singing church solos. He was a dedicated Christian who visited nursing homes and shut-ins. His concern was that others would know Christ as their Savior as he did. Surviving are his mother, Iva Payne of rural Blanchardville; three sisters, Elinore (Jerry) Benet of Darlington, Lenore (Stephen) Brown of Platteville, Leore (lee) (Eugene) Peterson of Argyle; a brother, Dean Payne of McCamay, Texas and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He was preceded in death by his father in 1997; a brother Melvin in 1999; and two nieces, Karalyn Benet in 1976 and Ceolo Mia Payne in 2002. Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monroe, Rev. Dwight B. Turbett officiating, with burial in the Bethel-Hawthorne Cemetery, Monroe.
