Gerald J. "Jerry" Aaron, 70, of Freeland, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, surrounded by his family at his home after an extended illness.

The son of the late Mike and Irene (Maier) Aaron was born on June 5, 1939, in Ingersoll Township and had resided in this area all his life. He was a member of the LaPorte United Methodist Church, where he held various offices. He worked and retired from the Michigan Department of Transportation in 1998 after 37 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter, loved to travel and listen to bluegrass and old country music.

On May 25, 1963, he married Mary J. Miller; she survives him. Also surviving are his two daughters, Cheryl (Bob) Leavitt and their children, Randy and Ryan and Diane (John) Yaworski and their children, Ahleah and Eric all of Bay City; his sister; Elaine (Bud) Brubaker of Midland; his brothers-in-law and sisters in-law, Gerald (Mary) Miller, Patricia (Larry) Urbancik, Thomas Miller, Karen Sheridan, Sandra (Duane) Kruth, Ronald (Colleen) Miller, Ernie (Barb) Miller, Mike (Pam) Miller, Helen Miller and Rick (Jackie) Miller; and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his mother in-law and father in-law; Earl (Catherine) Miller; his brother and sister in-law, William (Catherine) Miller; and his brother in-law, Michael Sheridan.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, at the LaPorte

United Methodist Church (Smith Crossing and LaPorte roads). The Rev. James L. Rule will officiate, with burial to follow in the LaPorte Cemetery.

Jerry's family will receive friends at the Freeland Chapel of the Cunningham-Taylor Funeral Homes, Inc. on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. On Monday morning Jerry will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Those planning an expression of sympathy, envelopes for MidMichigan Hospice and LaPorte United Methodist Church will be available at the funeral home.
