He was one of four children who all predeceased him. Edward Rideout Jr, Shirley Mahn, and Carl Rideout.

He was a Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts. A member of the Institute of Radio Engineers. Taught electronics at the Officer Radio Communications School, Scott Field Illinois. During the Korean war he maintained aircraft radios at Kimpo AFB in Korea. Joined North American Aviation in 1959 and in the first year saved a program that the company had given up on, preventing contract default. Out of six levels of management, he was on the third level. He was the youngest Project Manager and the only one that was a college drop out. Later he and his son David became electrical contractors in Fallbrook CA. An avid amateur radio operator (WA6IPD) he designed numerous equipments including an emergency radio system for Fallbrook. At the local Jr High School he was teaching electronics to kids wanting their Ham license and on April 6, 1991, they used his radio to contact Ken Cameron aboard the Spacecraft Atlantis.

He married Roslyn B Schaefer 20 Oct 1951 in Belleville Illinois and had three sons all born in Belleville. Dennis (deceased 1953) David and Bruce. Roslyn preceded him in death on 28 September 2021. He is also survived by granddaughters Noelle (Christian) Portillo, Morgan (John) McClure and Cassius Rideout. Great-grandchildren Victoria McClure, JP McClure and Christian Portillo Jr.
