(INFORMATION SOURCE: MY SINCERE APPRECIATION TO LILLIE BARNES)--Arthur E. Mitchell was my mother's uncle. His father was Sam (Smiley) B. Mitchell and his mother was Sydney Anne (Anna) Gault. He had one brother, Herbert J. Mitchell; and three sisters, Norma, Bertha, and Jessie. Arthur was living at 708 Granada Avenue, Middletown, Butler, OH, at the time of his death. He died at 8 a.m. at the Middletown Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week. Cause of death was from atricular fibrillation caused by lung cancer. Services were held at McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, S. Sutphin and Woodlawn Ave., Middletown, OH. He served in the U.S. Army from 1905-1908, honorably discharged on July 19, 1908. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. His wife was Rettie Rose (maiden name). They had three children: Mrs. Madge Malone of St. Marys, WV; Mrs. Ida Belle Wagner and Robert Mitchell, both of Manchester. At the time of Arthur's death, he had a stepson, Elmer Childers of Franklin and 12 grandchildren. Members of the American Legion Post 218 conducted graveside military rites. Arthur is listed in the 1933 Middletown (MIT) Directory as Mitchell Arth. (Rettie), factory worker, rms. 31 Crawford. He is also listed in the 1937 Middletown directory as Mitchell, Arth (Rettie) oil driller, h 1907 North av.
