Biography:
Harvey and Elizabeth left Lamar Co, TX, for California in May of 1849, and took 5 months to get there.
There was a long article page 194, in HISTORY OF STANISLAUS COUNTY, CALIFORNIA, by Wallace W. Elliot. Pub. San Fancisco, pub 1881. The book was found in the California State Library. The article mentions the parents of Harvey (John and Elizabeth Davis). Land record shows purchase of land in TX 10 April 1837.

It appears that Harvey Bates Davis was the H. B. Davis (3 Sgt) who served under Capt. Wm Edmondson in the Mounted Riflemen, 1 Regt (Sim's Regt.), 4 Brigade (Dyer's Brig.) of the Texas Militia, Sep 6, 1838 to Jan. 7, 1839. Also in this Regt. were Z.B. Miller, Claiborne Chisum, Jason Wilson, and Samuel A. Miller. Also serving was Robert Glass who married Jane E. Miller.

He died while inspecting his farmland in Mexico.
Believed to be in same cemetery as his son who died 3 years earlier, in a Rail Road Accident.
