Despite what it says quite clearly on this stone, I believe she was actually born Dec 20 1851, and the family got it wrong whenever they got around to engrave it, probably years later when Edward died.

Her death certificate when calculating years months days points to 1851, not 1850.

The 1900 census, in which she is curiously listed, despite being dead 3 years, says born Dec 1851. Our family records also say 1851.

This is one of those situations when the data nearest the event has to be of greater weight than the later engraving.

Have not found a birth record in NY, nor have I tried to find one there, but think this may be within that 3 year window when there were vital records kept.
