He was the first child of Guy Harry and Mabel Alice Harris. He had three younger sisters and one younger brother. He married Kathleen I. Perry on 19 Nov 1935 in Fayetteville, Washington Co., Arkansas. They had one son Phillip Allan Harris born 23 Sep 1942 in Fayetteville Arkansas. Marion enlisted on 6 Jan 1941 in Oklahoma. He was attached to the National Guard and assigned to the Field Artillery Unit. His grade when he enlisted was a Sergeant. He was promoted to a 1st Lt. during WWII where he was killed. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal, Silver Star Medal, and additional Army awards.

(UNCONFIRMED - Citation Needed): Marion L. Harris, United States Army, is reported to have been awarded the Silver Star under the below-listed General Orders, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy while serving with the 4th Armored Division during World War II.
