Ruth was my sister, the oldest of six children. She and brothers Joe and Sam lost their father, Rev. John S. Long, when Ruth was six. Two years later our mother married Forest Hurlbert and after Ina, Una and I were born we viewed Ruth as a second mother; she was always there for us. Even while raising her boys Denny, Ron and Jim, she was an active force in our lives and remained close to all of us. Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother and home maker, extremely organized and hospitable; the greatest cook. She never knew a stranger, and her easy smile and quick humor endeared her to all.
