Mothers' daughters were all married now, but my two brothers were single
until 1900, when Charles married Effie Wortley. She lived with her family,
on a farm three miles east of Farlington.

Her father was English and especially interest in nursery stock. He sold
lots of trees and shrubs around Farlington. He put out an orchard and sold
fruit, also.

Effie Wortley was an accomplished young lady and she and Charles had been
keeping company many years. Now he was established in his harness and
collar business in Hastings, Nebraska, and came back for his girl.

Effie was crippled, one leg shorter than the other. She was very small in
stature, but very bright, and sociable, and interested in people, clubs,
and church. She was well educated and taught for nine years.

She was a great help to Charles as he had refused to go to school much and
never did like to write letters or keep books. They went to housekeeping
in Hastings in 1900.

Dick and I tried to think of all the teachers who had been residents in
Farlington. We counted 78 including five in Mother's family. The names
which come to me now besides our own family are
